Title: RE: [Finale] Copy Everything (was Jari's review of Fin 2006)

Hello Robert,

I am with you on this one. I think it is a bad idea to remove "Copy Everything." Since before Jari's review I have been very conscious on how much I use this feature and it is so ingrained in my workflow it is going to be hard to break from it. I just do not see the benefit of removing it. Is it because it seems redundant? If so, what else is on the chopping block? The beauty of Finale is that there ARE so many different ways to get things done.

From what I can gather, the only way to "Copy Everything" in 2006 is to
1. open up the dialog box
2. click "All" button under the "Entry Items" section
3. click "All" button under the "Measure Items" section
4. click "OK" to close dialog box

When the process before was to just select "Copy Everything" from a menu item (without a dialog box showing up).

Am I wrong about this?

Is it not obvious that we are going backwards in workflow (opening a dialog box, 3 clicks, then closing a dialog box vs. select a menu item)? Who would have asked for this? Could this have been a big request from users?

What's even more frustrating is that they take the basic functionality away from just selecting "Copy Everything" and do not include something remotely similar in this new and improved dialog box! What gives! They obviously thought that users would need an "Uncheck All" button so why not include a "Check All" button! ESPECIALLY when they remove "Copy Everything" as a menu item. Who is testing this software before it is released? Do beta testers have any say on this kind of obvious error?

I have only talked about the basic functions of removing this menu item. As Robert has stated there are other implications that seem to go deeper than what the ordinary user sees. I could go on and on how this is such a poor decisions on MM part but no need to go on any further. And I agree with Robert that this decision seems arbitrary and little thought has gone into it. I hope more people send emails in protest.

From what I can tell this all seems like another MM blunder. Will it kill my workflow? Not completely...I'll have to write a BUNCH of QuicKeys to fix the flaw and be back on track but from what I can tell this shows poor judgement on MM's part.

I shake my head in disbelief (again).
Steve

If (like I do) you think the willful removal of the Copy Everything menu item is as confiscatory and arbitrary as I do, please let MM know separately. I've already said as much to them as will do any good: perhaps more. Perhaps the only thing that can make a difference now is a groundswell of protest.
