Don't know if this is of any help but an apple tech guy told me an easy way to 
set permissions when moving between systems is to just pass any files you want 
to be able to use through your drop box (~/Public/Drop Box/) - when anyone 
sends you something through the drop box the permissions have to be set that 
they can be accessed by you ... otherwise there would be no point in the drop 
box.
