This is almost unheard of! I take my word "most unlikely" back now. Two people is enough to prove something is wrong in this magnitude. So, FinMac2006 installer seems to be overwriting some data under both ~/ Library/Application\ Support and ~/Library/Preferences. Did FinMac2006 installer left a log at /Library/Receipts/ ?
