Which is why I asked the question, as it didn't make sense to say you couldn't use MIDI while using AU, since what you're sending to it *is* MIDI.
Go RTFA about Audio Units. It is a different beast than Midi. Why Finale can't do both at the same time is probably cause the lame programers there didn't do it right.

You're still sending it MIDI data, which the original comment seemed to say was not the case.

If you'd pay attention to the questions I ask instead of looking for things to get your panties in a twist over, you'd save a lot of time posting.

Go back to fixing your "problematic" drives or something. If you'd get your head out of the windowass world, perhaps you'd have a clue as to what an Audio Unit is.
