One side effect of this is that the time sigs get really wide as well, which is not what one usually sees with this kind of time sig. The Tall Metric fonts are designed so that no matter how tall they get, they are only ever 48 points wide (i.e., twice the width of a "regular" time sig). This allows you also to mix and match heights, so that you might have (e.g.) a 5x height time sig covering 5 wind staffs, a 2x height time sig over the piano staff, and another 5x time sig over the string staffs, all vertically aligned and all the same width.
(You can also create your own version of the Tall Metric fonts from Maestro using just about any font editor.)
