Well, a not very unlikely scenario is this: Finale will take a long time to be ported to IntelMacs. That in itself may not be that bad (we waited for ages for the OSX version, too),

And during that long wait, please remember that Finale lost market share among music departments that use Macs and had previously used Finale. That's exactly what happened to us. Freshmen were about to arrive with OS X computers and there was no sign of a Finale version that would run on them. That's when we switched, as a department, to Sibelius, but it was MakeMusic that forced us to switch. And since the school market is absolutely key to developing lifelong customers for either program, MakeMusic lost our customer base for the foreseeable future. If they're unaware of this, they aren't tracking their sales very well.

but, Robert Patterson has already said that he may not port his plugins.

I don't know that any of our students used additional plugins, or that they are even aware of them. I've always felt that any program that depends on 3rd-party support to run the way it should have been designed to run in the first place is making a poorly-considered and eventually fatally-flawed business decision. But this no longer concerns our department, at least until Sibelius sells out to some hotshot MBAs who start making the same kind of stupid decisions! Bill Gates, for all his faults, would have been smart enough to buy out the 3rd-party add-ons that actually made his programs usable.

That, and the lack of proper Audio editing software for my needs on the Apple platform may well be enough of a reason to switch and say good-bye to Apple.

I don't know what they're using, but our audio tech instructors and students seem to be doing fine with the audio editing software that you seem to feel isn't "proper."
