On a parallel subject - much TV music I find OK to horrible, but I'm curious about where CSI found that "Whooooo are you?" song that they use as a theme - my knowledge of pop music has large gaps, - and I recommend checking out the original theme music for "The Medium," which startles me with it's sophistication and beauty.

A TV theme that caught my ear recently was the theme to "Six Feet Under." It's the only show that I actually listen to the theme all the way through, even though I taped it the night before and could fast-forward if I wanted to.

Hi Chris,

I remember liking this too. I'm surprised no one has responded about "The Medium" theme. Don't know who wrote it, but it stands out in an environment where almost everything else is ponderous and pounding and eventually just numbing. (2 favorite shows John Stewart and Stephen Colbert have pretty awful music.)

BTW, I suppose everyone is aware that it was Patrick Doyle and not John Williams who is credited with the new Harry Potter movie music, even though some of the themes are the same. I thought Doyle's approach was more restrained than Williams'; less wall-to- wall, more drama-driven, and less memorable as well. My kids didn't notice the music at all, but my son (age 10) gets antsy every time the music gets creepy, though he couldn't say why. I suppose that means the music is doing its job.

I think so.

David Froom wrote me off-list to let me know that all the CSI themes are by "The Who" - pretty clever music, I think.
