I've had the opposite problem at times. (I normally leave xtend over
2ndary checked.) Consider a beamed group 16th note, 16th rest, 8th note.
With 2ndary xtend option checked, Finale gives the 16th rest a beam
rather than creating a beam stub on the initial 16th note. It is most
aggravating.
There are some workarounds, but not general ones. What I'm say here is
that if you'll share your specific example, we might be better able to
offer a workaround.
(The list consensus is correct. There is no way to apply beaming options
locally, more's the pity.)
