Sometimes you need retronyms. "Analog watch". "Live recording". "BST-Free". "Manual transmission". When technology changes create additional choices, the previous apparently 'undumbed down' choice suddenly becomes confusing without context. This is such a case. Whatever the meaning of transpose is outside of software, it takes on a new character, and the authors have to figure out how to deal with it clearly.
