Actually, I don't think there is much between the early NBA and the early NMA edition. Some of the early NBA editions have since been redone (WTC, Brandenburgs) others are still full of errors (unaccompanied violin sonatas, unless they have been redone yet).

I think that critical edition standards have evolved in the early years of both of these edtions, and what was acceptable then seems unacceptable now.
