I don't need or use playback except for "proofing". But do you mean independant time signatures in the different parts? I'm not sure I understand your suggestion.

I didn't know what sort of music you were working on, but I guess independent time signatures might work. Set one of the time signatures to allow you to enter all the notes you need and leave the other one as it is. You'll have to do the beaming yourself probably (using the / key) but you should be able to enter them properly this way.
