Martin,

(A) What are your system specs?
(B) Have you tried reducing the master volume in the mixer?
(C) Have you tried reducing the polyphony on the GPO timpani? (That's actually the most likely culprit.)

When I first got Finale 2006c for Mac a year ago, I input some music, and, using the GPO sounds for playback, found a lot of "static" for fast moving notes during playback, especially 16th notes. So I went back to good ol' reliable 2003a.

Since I'm working on a new edition of an 18th Century Te Deum for chorus and orchestra, I decided to just input, using FinMac 2006c, the first several measures of music for two oboes, two trumpets (Bb) and timpani.

When I playback these measures at any speed starting at quarter note = 80 or faster, I still get some staticky sounds at the end of the first measure where the trumpets and timpani have a few 16th notes. It gets worse the faster the tempo is. At quarter note = 79 (and slower), there is no static, playback is perfectly clear.

If someone is willing, I can send, as an attachment, a finale file of this short excerpt, for anyone to see if they can reproduce the static in the playback, and hopefully suggest a solution to this problem.
