Tyler,
Check out this recent Ars thread on picking a video card for a Vista

This exchange perfectly summarizes what I've been trying to get across:
racketboynick: I should have asked this earlier, but what DX9
chipsets have the best 2D performance?
Pavv: 2D wise they're all the same. Go back like 10 years ago and
there was a difference but these days 2D acceleration is identical
across the board - the visual quality may vary depending on the
quality of an individual vendor (ie get a well-regarded brand name
rather than something like a Jaton) but even that is irrelevant if
you're using a digital DVI connection.
The thing to remember is that Aero/Glass is not 2D. That's why 3D
performance matters for regular usage all of a sudden.
The only thing I would add is that the GeForce 7300 GT has decent 3D
performance for a budget card and is more than adequate for all that
Aero/Glass stuff.
But put that aside for a minute. The take-home message here is that
RIGHT NOW, running Finale on Windows XP, there is absolutely no
difference in performance between any two video cards currently on
the market. None. Zip. Nada. You can get a $100 graphics card or a
$1500 graphics card, and both will execute a Finale redraw at exactly
the same speed.
Cheers,
- Darcy
