Very interesting read and, mostly, quite heartening. However, one 
thing made my heart nearly stop:

     ETF support has been removed in Finale 2007. This has partly to
     do with the fact that the Finale's file format no longer is a
     flat file format as it was before the introduction of linked
     parts. 

Is anyone in a position yet to be able to explain what this means? 
Finale's internal file structure was *never* flat from a relational 
database point of view. Does this mean that Finale uses separate 
files for the part definitions? Or just that the structural changes 
internal to Finale files made to support linked parts were so great 
that they could no longer support ETF without completely modifying 
the ETF standard?
