Dear Finale List, I could use some input from Finale users who are familiar with both MOTU's Digital Performer software and Apple's Logic Audio software. I was wondering if Logic would be easier for me to learn in the long term. Here's what I'm dealing with:
I've been working with a composer who's been using DP since the Mac SE days. He creates these huge orchestral scores in DP and creates amazing-sounding demos using GigaStudio for his clients. He then re-quantizes the files so they can be most "easily" imported into Finale as MIDI files. He uses DP's QuickScribe notation feature to print out quick-and-dirty scores which he then marks up with articulations, dynamics, tempo changes, etc. Sometimes the strings are usually split into several staves for arco and pizz, etc. My job is to take his MIDI files, marked-up QuickScribe printouts and mp3s of his audio demos, and create Finale scores with standard orchestral staff layouts (e.g. arco and pizz. string staves are merged) and all rhythms are re-quantized/hand-corrected to match the composer's intent. This is a grueling process, given the major shortcomings in Finale's MIDI file import features. This composer has suggested that perhaps I purchase DP and take a crack at re-quantizing his files myself. I will be purchasing a new Mac workstation this fall, and along with it some new software. So my question is this: Would it be better in the long term for me to go with Logic rather than DP? I know that there are legions of dedicated DP users, but seeing what happened to Mosaic, I would rather go with the sure bet. Would Logic be able to import DP files and allow me to do everything DP does, including QuickScribe notation? Thanks in advance for your help, Brian Williams _______________________________________________ Finale mailing list [email protected] http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
