Messy? Sloppy? Just being facetious. Seems to me it goes along with torn jeans. I don't know that I'd like it (don't remember having seen it) unless it made the pages easier to turn.

Check out any recent non-genre fiction hardcover in your local bookstore -- it probably has the ragged edge.
