ah yes, of course, this would work, thanks for pointing that out. i'm hoping to find another solution though, i'm trying to keep the # of expressions down; there are at least 50 tempo markings in the score and already 500 expressions in the list with another 1/3 of the score to go... i think i might be stuck with your solution.

Well, it would seem easy enough to define two expressions, one that which works in score, and one in parts. Now define two expression staff lists...
