I find Finale's slurs over system breaks very ungainly when they start on the last note of the first system. I change them all by hand, of course, but am wondering if there is any setting to improve Finale's handling of them.

And then, I don't seem to find much in the reference books on these slurs. Where should the first bit end? Before the final barline of the first system? On it? After it?

I agree that they are very ugly, and it's easy to spot a Finale document done by an engraving novice when these are left unchanged.

I find that anything hanging over the right end of the staff to be distracting, so I simply pull the right end of the start of the slur so it more or less runs parallel to the staff and ends right at the edge of the staff, then I pull the start of the slur extension on the next line so that it is approximately the same height above the staff and begins above the middle of the clef sign.

I'm sure others do other things, but this looks right to my eye and has been obvious to the musicians who have used my music.
