The graphic file format was a cresc. that I made in Photoshop. Pretty sure
the file is not corrupt. I experimented with creating a cresc. and a dim. in
the Expression tool area with real good results. Wouldn't it be best to use
Finale to create anything I can anyway?
Was able to put the cresc and dim into the page with ease. Really happy
but, the expressions disappear as soon as I do anything else.........like
move the page around with a right click (winXP) or switch to the selection
key (arrow?). The page prints great but doesn't show the expressions. Is
there a way to bring them into sight?
Thanks for explaining 'embedding'. It makes sense to me now. I really
like using the expression tool (results) better than the photoshop graphic
which is what I'll end up with. Just real concerned about losing the pic.
My home computer is a Pent 4 with 2.4 GHz and 512 RAM. The RAM is the
problem perhaps. 512 isn't much nowdays, I assume. The hard drive is 40 GB
which is using 34 GB leaving 6 or less GB free space. Could this be a lot of
the problem? I am going to take it to a neighborhood shop for a cleanup real
soon.
If I could just keep the pic on the page (view), I'd be happy.
Thanks so much for your help David.

The finale file is 88 kb. The graphic file size is 30 kb. They are pretty
small, I feel. I'm importing the graphic files via tools/advanced
tools/graphics. This is where it crashes. My windows 'task manager' shows
that the performance is very low. The CPU Usage is running between 8 and
13 %. Don't know if that could be the problem. I do know that this
computer is getting pretty full and is probably the reason for all my
trouble since I tried this file at a computer at work which is in great
shape with all kinds of room etc. on it. Everything worked good there
but, the grapics (crescendo and dimiendo) would show up and print fine
but, if I close the file and reopen it, they wouldn't show up again. Man,
this is so frustrating.
I'm not sure what 'embeding' means since I'm not an everyday Finale
user. I usually do enough to get a job done which takes me much longer
since I'm not doing it everyday. It's hard to find the time to really
study Finale so I wouldn't have to ask for help so much. I sure do
appreciate the help that you and the 'List' provide and am in deep
gratitude.

What is the file format of the graphic you're trying to import?
Are you sure the graphic file isn't corrupt? Does it open fine in other
programs?
"embedding" is one way of having a graphic attached to a finale file, and
linking is the other way. Embedding actually places all the data for the
graphic within the Finale file, so that it will always show up whenever
that file is opened, but it adds to the size of the Finale file. Linking
merely places a short link to wherever the graphics file resides on your
computer, so sending the Finale file to someone else who doesn't have the
graphic file in the same location on their computer as you have it on your
computer will result in problems.
Could this be the problem? Your work computer has the graphic but your
home computer doesn't have it? If you have embedded the graphic (there
was an option to do so when you first placed the graphic in the Finale
document), there should be no problem unless your computer at home has too
little ram for Finale to fully function. The CPU usage may be low but if
there isn't enough physical RAM you might still get the same result.
