No, I didn't suggest that. Someone else did. That only works with 
PostScript printers, and not even reliably with all of those (it has 
never worked reliably with my own PS printer).

I use TIFFs for embedding in Word documents.

Unless I'm misremembering you are using Word, no? Word actually does 
a pretty darned good job of scaling non-vector graphics, even being 
smart enough to not do proportional scaling of thin lines (though 
there is a threshold beyond which Finale staff lines disappear if 
your source graphic is substantially larger than your printed size). 
This can be addressed by adjusting the staff line thickness before 
export, or by simply choosing an export size that is closer to the 
target size.
