Actually, I did eventually come to the conclusion that making each
system a single measure would save me a lot of hassle in the long
run. But I forgot about the split/merge plugins -- thanks for the
reminder.

What is the problem with making each system a single measure? In my
experience this is by far the best method to do this. With the
plugins for Split measure and Merge Measures this is not too
difficult to accomplish, although I really wished that Jari's Time
Sig plugin was updated for 2k7 on OS X, and the bugs fixed, it
would really make this job much quicker.
