Hey Carl,
Thanks -- I just cleaned all the cleanable parts, including the
rollers, but that doesn't seem to have helped in any way.
I'm debating whether to call the Ricoh techs or to order the
maintenance kit. Normally, you only need to replace the
maintenance kit every 90,000 pages, and I'm only at 38,625. But
I'd get a new fuser, transfer roller, pads, and feed rollers --
that might help, right?
First a question -- is this printer misalignment the same in all
applications or just Finale? The way you posted, it seems as if it
might be all applications, but I just wanted to be sure that there
isn't something in the printer driver which might be causing it,
rather than the hardware.
All apps.
That sounds like an expensive kit to buy in order to get a "might
help" out of it.
Yep. I went ahead and ordered it anyway -- there's some chance it
will be good money after bad, but if it works, the kit is the
cheapest solution. If it makes no difference -- well, it was
something I was going to have to buy eventually anyway. I'll put the
old parts back and keep the kit in reserve for when I actually need it.
It may be that you've just been using too much heavy paper which is
more than the manufacturer expected the typical user to run through
the printer. You may end up having to make the same expense every
38,000 pages, if that's the case.
That may be the case.
It would be a shame to spend the $300 to call the techs and have
them tell you that you need the maintenance kit.
Indeed.
It might be time to consider a newer printer.
I would *love* to get a newer printer, but since I'm extremely
reluctant to buy a used HP on eBay, it's just not in the cards for
the moment.
Who knows... perhaps the maintenance kit will help me wring a few
more years out of this clunker.
Cheers,
- Darcy
