Hi Jef,
"Between" doesn't work like "Between X pt. and Y pt." -- there's
only one input box, and the "between" value refers to the extra
space between lines (e.g., "0.5 pt" or "-3 pt". But that space is
still dependent on the overall height of the font.
There is simply no way to tell Pages "I'm using a font with a
massive total height, but I want to you ignore that and space these
lines exactly 14 pt. apart no matter what."
If you're only dealing with single lines, then it's no problem,
because you can set the "between" value to a large negative value.
It's when you have Maestro characters in the middle of a paragraph
that you run into trouble, because you can't set the line spacing
for just one line in the paragraph without affecting the rest of
the paragraph.
It's definitely worth trying out. I use it for a bunch of stuff,
including my one-sheet and the band's setup diagram. It's just
specifically bad if you have a paragraph that includes musical
characters or other characters from an abnormally tall font.
That's really odd, considering that the program Pages replaced -
AppleWorks - IS able to space lines independently.
BTW, I find that the free Bach musicological font has good musical
characters that match Times pretty well. It's what I use instead of
Maestro in text documents.
