I've got a document with 21 parts for an orchestra piece. (The score is in a different file.) When I go to print them as PDF, 19 of the parts print with no problem, but 2 of the part print with the following error:

There is a printing problem. ID = -108

I have complained about this ridiculous message to MM before. This error is generated when Finale attempts to save a PDF with a filename that includes an illegal character (probably a slash) in one of the part names. It is not possible to Save as PDF when your part name is, e.g. "Flute/Piccolo 1."

I recommended trying to "Compress PDF" instead of "Save to PDF..." Now I know why my suggestion worked (in a round-about way).

"Compress PDF" is an Applescript and it prompts you to name the saved file by presenting a blank field. Chances are that you won't fill in the name with a "/" because of good computer sense. The "Save to PDF..." generates its own names and as Darcy pointed out, those "/"s cause problems.

Thanks Darcy and Robert for clearing up that mystery!
