But don't forget that it's a living language, and keeps changing as the music it describes keeps changing. I understand why you were puzzled with your 4th chords (some of my favorite voicings for singers, especially with the major 3rd on top as in your bar 2), but I agree with your decisions. Sometimes I just write the voice parts as I want them, and then figure out what I want the rhythm section to see in order to fit in and support it.
