This is a complaint I never understood, as I always found IE to open 
nearly instantaneously. Well, actually, what happens is that you get 
the IE window but it takes longer for the page to render.

However, I recently realized that a lot of people have add-in 
toolbars added to IE. One of the worst offenders is MSN Messenger, 
because when it's installed, in some circumstances it will try to 
connect every time you view a new web page (I forget the specifics -- 
I removed it immediately!).

So, if IE is slow, it may be an indicator that you should prune the 
add-ins. No one should be using IE as principle browser anyway (well, 
maybe IE7), as all the alternatives are much much better and faster 
and more versatile.
