I actually dislike the expression tool because it has no page attachment. I use the text tool in any situation where the material isn't supposed to be anchored to a measure or other item. This way you can extract parts and change layout to >your heart's content, and the instructions stay attached to the >measure or note they were originally attached to. Finale's needed a template system for a long time, with at least a master page layer, a page-based layer, a movable line-based layer (now unfortunately measure-based), an object-based layer, and a user-definable layer. There is no reason that expressions, for example, should be attached to measures or notes. They should be able to be attached to anything (and should -- repeating this for the umpteenth time) *show* the ownership through some sort of rubber-band indicator. I also wish there were a doggone LOCK, where the program would be forbidden to move any item at all on a given page, even during layout updates. A point-to-point marquee selection, for example, that would put a light grey block over an area or page that was untouchable -- and keep it that way.
