I can't speak for any current S~ users, but for my part, finding out
that MakeMusic had such an offer like that for S~ users would irritate
me mightily.
Of course, I'd be irked also if had paid twice the price. Read the
interesting article David F. posted on the pricing of software...
Also, there wasn't much point in keeping the ETF format now that we have
both platform-independent Finale files and XML.
I have grown used to the phenomenon of whatever I decide to purchase,
whenever I decide to purchase it, either of two things happen (and
usually the *both* happen simultaneously):
1) the same product is significantly cheaper within 2 months;
2) the same amount of money that I spent can buy about twice the product
within 2 months.
It's a fact of life in the high-tech marketplace.
And it's very much like airline travel -- rarely to 2 people on the same
plane pay the same amount to travel the same distance. One can get
upset over it or one can just accept it as a fact of life (even if I
can't ever understand it) and work hard to be one of those paying the least.
If Noel would get irritated over finding that someone paid half what he
paid for Finale, I wonder how he treats his academic and theological
pals? They pay significantly less for it. And I would hate to be near
him on an airplane when he finds the person next to him paid $100 less
for the same flight. :-)
