I think you're on Windows, right? For me, on WinXP, the standard Print dialog has a "Print to File" checkbox. If I check that and hit OK, I get a File Save dialog. The resulting file can be sent to your printer later.

(I haven't done this in a long time. In the old days, I would do something like 'type foo.prn > prn', but nowadays my default printer is on the network, and I'm not sure how to redirect output there from a command prompt. The file itself is a binary file with PCL commands, since my printer is an HP6.)

If I examine the Properties for my printer, through Control Panel | Printers and Faxes, and click on the Ports tab, I can also choose the standard FILE port. This has the same effect as the "Print as File" checkbox, although the Save As dialog isn't as friendly.

Aaron.
