It was a choral piece with some strange splits, and if I had changed
that note then I would have had to have changed the lyric assignment,
which would have meant hyphens repeating (earlier version of Finale)
and extension lines either not occurring or needlessly occurring, and
I would have had to have adjusted stem directions and intervals of a
second manually. The way I did it I only had one thing to keep track
of...

song!) tying to different layers, having to resort to dragging a
forwards tie backwards to make it work across system breaks. When
the note starting the new system is ALSO tied, I have to keep
doing it until the note stops being tied! Once I had to do it
eight times for eight bars of tied whole notes...
