Another kind of help that has been lost is domain-oriented help. The
kind of help we have now is basically about how to use the program. What
might really help as much is how to use the program *to write music*.
The old Finale Encylopedia was a great first draft. But it could go so
much further. MM could license texts like Ross and Kurt Stone and
integrate them into a help system. There is a huge body of public-domain
scores they could use. You could start off with clickable images of
score pages in various genres and styles that lead you into directions
for how to accomplish every detail on the page, along with automatically
(optionally) doing some of it for you.
Now I am thinking along the lines of the help in TurboTax, which is
domain help rather than program help. Unlike TurboTax, the domain here
is not dictated by law, so anything MM recommended might be
controversial. But I can't imagine anything being more controversial
than the 4 Staff List limit, and MM is weathering that. :-P
