In the 2009a update they changed the expression behaviour slightly so that 
expressions that have to avoid notes do so for layers other than 1. This, in 
addition to the knowledge that you can still have an expression stick to the 
beat originally assigned by holding down the Opt key when you move it, greatly 
improves the usability of the expressions. I am cautiously approving (for now!) 
of the new expressions.

I just wish I could figure out when staff lists are available and when they 
aren't. Haven't got that yet.
