Hey, Folks... I appreciate all the responses posted to my query. Actually, I'm a little less concerned with what it (the newest upgrade) CAN do on the positive side, as opposed to the degree to which it will present me with hassles compared to my present version. I would hate to buy it and be worse off than I am with 2007, which, as I mentioned, is pretty much behaving itself within the parameters of my usage needs (I do, however, since I do a lot of Concert Band scoring, miss hearing sax sounds in playback). I'm beginning to form some opinions, for which I'm grateful.

Thanks again,

Dean

The biggest problem with 09 expressions is that because they are not note-attached, they do not stay with the notes when you (metrically) move them. This comes into play most forcefully if you insert a rest before a note, or if you answer with one of the "move" options coming out of speedy with extra notes in the bar.

I consider this to be an unforgivable feature confiscation, far more egregious than anything to do with staff lists. No amount of new expression-related eye candy compensates for it.

I was prepared to adopt 09 (after the maintenance release) until I realized this limitation existed. Now, MM will have to offer a *major* feature incentive (on the order of linked parts) to get me to go past 08.

In the 2009a update they changed the expression behaviour slightly so that expressions that have to avoid notes do so for layers other than 1.
