My community band has performed PDQ Bach's Grand Serenade for an Awful Lot of Winds and Percussion, and there are sections where just that effect is desired, and the notation is diamond-shape note heads with the verbal cue "Reed Only" at the start of that passage. Same for brass mouthpieces and clarinet mouthpiece/barrel combinations.
