I'm as frustrated as many are with things that have been pointed out
here and to MM that are not yet fixed, but sometimes MM listens. If
I remember correctly, there was considerable hue and cry here a
couple of years ago asking for linked parts. Even with the less
that perfect implementation,
What I find amazing is that Composer's Mosaic (MotU) had linked parts
about 12 or more years earlier (around 1992-93) and they worked fine,
with changes in EITHER score or parts reflected instantly in the
other. (Which did create some problems, but you learned about them
and how to avoid them.)
I'll be the first to admit that Mosaic was very, very limited in what
it could do, and that there were a great many things that it could
NOT do (including hiding almost anything at all), but it seems like
it was programmed in the first place my musicians who knew something
about what musicians needed. And the defaults looked GOOD, so it
didn't matter that you couldn't tweak them to death!
And Sibelius' implementation of linked parts seems to be doing quite
well, too, as I gradually learn to use it. It's as if MM simply
doesn't care any more--if they ever did. I know absolutely nothing
about the management of MM, but it seems to reflect what often
happens to companies that are highly technical in their products when
they are taken over by MBAs who've been taught that they can manage
anything. They can't!
