I don't know whether the editor or user ratings are more useful, but 
at least you can read people's reactions to the program before 
choosing one.

I find that when evaluating free software like this, I pick the best-
sound 5 or 6 and find maybe 1 or 2 that are both good and compatible 
with my way of thinking.

Unfortunately, I don't have time to look at any of these.
