I don't think I can produce better pictures than the ones at Henle's own
page, given the difficulties in lighting a metal plate:

Specially the ZIPed picture notenstich_4_dt.zip shows a plate sample
pretty clearly. The thin vertical spacing lines shown on the plate in
that picture are removed when the engraving is finished. The whole
process can be seen in the video ("Gestochen scharf") on that same page.
Please note that the plate engraver worked in "mirrored" mode.
