Not really. Some people count additively, from left to right, starting over at bar lines. Others (including me) are trained by their experience to count in divisions according to beats, which can work well for certain kinds of music (most jazz and similar music, though not the hard parts of L'Histoire, as I can attest - to my own embarrassment).
