I have a ciaconna bass of two measures that is repeated over 60

repetition sign once with a number indicating how many times the
pattern is to be repeated?
I know Ted Ross says this is "used very seldom in published music",

I run into this kind of thing all the time in my music. It is very
common in jazz, for example, in drum and percussion parts.
You can write the pattern once, then as many .//. signs as will fit
onto the system, then restate the pattern at the start of the next
system. Clinton Roemer suggests this. I think it is essential that
every measure played be visible, so a sign like " .//. play 59 times"
would not be acceptable.
I would also suggest that each system be a regular number of measures
that agrees with the phrasing of the other parts, say 8 measures,
with double bars or at least rehearsal letters or numbers at the
start of each system. I would also number elapsed measures in each
phrase, in parentheses, over the measure. You will have to edit the
Staff Style so that it allows expressions to appear, as the default
does not allow this. I would accept arguments that maybe numbering
iterations instead of measures would be better, but I would prefer
elapsed measures each system to be numbered.
I would also try to put in cues, either as cue notes or as text, when
something distinctive happens in the other parts, like an entrance or
a new figure. This is astonishingly effective at keeping everyone's
concentration and helps general musicality. If you put musical note
cues, you will have to edit the Staff Style so it allows notes in
other layers to appear, as the "2 measure repeat" staff style hides
other layers by default.
Good luck, to you and to the poor bass player!
