I called my client and explained the problem. I said the reason it can't be done in Finale is because it is incorrect notation. She felt that was strange, she has other examples of it apparently, but she isn't adamant about the extension lines. Anyway, I managed a fudge - the usual thing (if in doubt create an expression) :o) Thanks for your answer.
