Also, Nigel:

I don't understand. "Sunshine of My Life" (Stevie Wonder) is in a 
major key, and the second chord of the song is some variety of V 
chord over I in the bass. How does that relate to the melodic minor 
scale of the tonic key?

As for "Girl from Ipanema" are you referring to the B section of the 
song when referring to the melodic minor?
