Go to Document Options - Time Signature At the bottom of the options given, click Composite Time Signature Plus Sign Character: Score Choose character slot 202, that will omit the plus, but will still keep a space, so it doesn't look like 42/44 time. Do the same for how you want the character to appear in the parts. Click OK. You'll have to set the time signature change for each measure in this passage, and hide the time signatures using the Measure Tool. Good luck.
