I guess it would depend on what you mean by "a large number of fonts" -- 
I have 1078 fonts installed on my Win7 Home Premium 64-bit notebook 
computer and just opened Finale2012 to create an expression and there 
was no delay, even after I switched fonts in the middle of the expression.

I also just ran Fin2011 and tried the same experiment and I notice a 
significant slowing down in the creation of a new expression, so I would 
say that there is significant improvement with this problem.

I couldn't say for certain the bug is totally gone, but it sure seems 
like it -- the text entry in Fin2012 expression tool is just as fast as 
text entry in either WordPerfect or Word or my email program.
