As long as they live up to the hype that surrounded the announcement,
about keeping the MusicXML development alive and available to all the
other software developers who want to include it in their products.

Personally I always get scared when a company like MakeMusic purchases
what is becoming an industry-wide utility such as MusicXML because even
though currently it will remain available, what's to prevent some future
CEO (and MakeMusic has had quite a few over the years I've been using
Finale) from clamping down and either refusing to renew the agreements
with the other developers or simply raising the licensing fees so high
that other developers decide not to keep including MusicXML capability.

But then the conspiracy-theorist in me always sees the dark side to such
mergers.

On the other hand it does show that the current CEO of MakeMusic has
some vision for the company which seems to have been lacking for the
past few years and these moves may be just the thing which improves
MakeMusic's financial standing and placement in the industry.

Only time will tell if these are good or bad things. One thing's for
certain, though, it certainly does change the playing field!
