Hi Michael,

I mentioned this on the Finale List last month, but I want to say again
congratulations for getting Recordare merged into the new MakeMusic.

I also want to plant an idea in your head, if I may. I don't know what sort of
opportunities might come up in the course of things, but if you're ever looking
for people to join some project related to digital sheet music, I hope you'll
keep me in mind. Not just engraving, but potentially anything interesting.
We've worked together enough that you know what I'm good at. Although I don't
have any direct experience with programming, I'm comfortable enough thinking in
terms of data structures and algorithms and so forth, and I'm smart enough that
I can learn things quickly. That along with my music and typography background
might be a good fit.

I'm really thinking long-term more than short-term. I'm not actively looking
for work now, and I'm locked into the upcoming tax season in any case. But
this will be my eighth year doing tax work full-time, so even though I'm still
pretty happy in my job and I like my employer a lot, I'm overdue for a change
of scenery. So I've been keeping an eye open for any opportunity that might
make me jump.

Moving back to the Bay Area isn't out of the question. I'm in an odd situation
where my girlfriend prefers the Bay Area and would much rather be there (she
especially dislikes the long winters and short daylight here), but she would
have to coordinate a move with all her entanglements plus her ex-husband's too,
since they both want to stay near to their daughter, and that makes it
complicated. The ideal time would be when said daughter finishes elementary
school and there's a vague intention to try a move then, but that's still two
and a half years away. If I'm still with her then, I expect I would follow.
If she is subtracted from the equation, then I like Washington better (because
I actually do prefer the drizzly gray weather over endless sunny and cloudless
skies!), but the Bay Area has its advantages too, so I'd be open-minded.

yours etc
