Hello Eric,

This may not be an issue for casual users but for those of us working for
publishers the RIPs may have a problem with TT fonts. TrueType outlines
are not 100% compatible in all RIPs. Since PS fonts work with most RIPs I
do not want a press run held up because I decided to go with TT. Prepress
operators will flag and stop a job to question the use of TT if they see a
TT in the font list. TrueType outlines being added to a PDF file could
cause problems with presses that use a PDF-to-Plate system since their
RIPs may not support TrueType fonts. In some of the PDF-to-Plate or
Direct-to-Press systems you do not see a proof after the RIP, it just goes
to plate or the press and your whole press job is printed, so no room for
error. Although PDF files with TT fonts can be redistilled so that the
fonts will be in a PostScript format, they may not display correctly.

Just a few thoughts on why some of us still rely on PS files.
