I have written scores where the transposition from C us indicates but 
bracketed. So a Bb trumpet part would have two sharps in the score in 
parentheses. All accidentals still marked and no key sig. in the parts. Purely 
as a score label. 
The criticism here is that of implied tonality but it doesn't seem much worse 
to me than the fact that the term 'accidental' implies some kind if norm. 
Also 'two sharps' could have a key centre of B minor or D or a mode or 
momentarily something else altogether so it really implies nothing.
