Hi Dennis,

For your first case, move your existing notation into non-playing layer and
create a playback layer with the over-the-barline quintuplets notated
conventionally (i.e., with a tie):

- the first three beats of the first measure will be identical, obviously

- on beat 4 of the first measure, create two eighth notes and a sixteenth note
under a 5-sixteenths-in-the-space-of-4-sixteenths tuplet bracket, with the last
note (the C) tied over the barline

- on beat 1 of the the following measure, begin the measure with a sixteenth C
(the second half of the tied note) followed by eighth notes on A and F. Apply a
5-sixteenths-in-the-space of 4 sixteenths tuplet bracket to the first beat.

We've had this discussion before, but the above is my preferred notation in
such cases anyway -- I don't see why tuplets should be treated differently than
ordinary notation when it comest to ties over barlines -- at least in
relatively straightforward instances like this, where the barline bisects the
quintuplet straight down the middle. But regardless, this is the solution that
gives you correct playback -- you're free to then hide it and use the
over-the-barline tuplet notation in a notation-only, non-playback layer.

As for the question of adding a beam stub (instead of a flag) to a single
eighth, I'm afraid I have no idea, but Jef probably has a good kludge.

Cheers,

- DJA
