If the job ends up being twice what they anticipated, they may not be willing (or able) to plunk another $10M on the table. Ultimately you have to ship a product or you go out of business. Are they really still in business? If so, it seems like they would give some indication of what to expect. I see the odd offer of Garritan libraries now and again, but that's about it.
