The parts have to be generated first. I find even if I have to extract parts to 
separate files (and I don't very often, as I much prefer to leave them linked 
in the same file) if I do most of the heavy lifting format-wise in the LINKED 
part, then there is very little to do in the extracted part. Especially if I 
have to edit later.

If you don't have to extract, I wouldn't. Leave the parts linked if at all 
possible.
